To underline the importance of digital trust for keeping our digital activity secure and resilient, we will simulate a significant cyber-attack on Australia through a hypothetical.
AustCyber’s Australia’s Digital Trust Report 2020 modeled the economic impact of a four-week digital interruption to Australia’s economy, such as through a widespread cyber-attack. It estimated this would cost the Australian economy AU$30 billion, or 1.5 per cent of Australia’s Gross Domestic Product, which is equivalent to losing over 163,000 jobs.
The hypothetical will step through all the facets of a cyber-attack – the impacts on and responses of government, crucial parts of our society and how it could impact us all.
Through the eyes of Australia’s top cyber experts, the audience will hear how Australia would respond should a potentially devastating cyber incident occur and importantly, how ready we are.

He has a proven track record of leading and transforming security and risk management capabilities for large and complex organisations. Tim has worked for top tier financial services, energy and consulting organisations in APAC, Europe and the US. He is currently the CISO/CSO for the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) where he has built a diverse, inclusive and highly engaged team with a mission to protect the operation of Australia's energy grids and markets. Tim is a recognised leader in cyber security of the Australian energy sector and has been leading AEMO's drive to uplift the cyber security capability and maturity of the Australian energy sector.
Serge Maillet
Head of Cybersecurity for Siemens Digital Industries Australia and New Zealand
As the Head of Cyber Security for Siemens Digital Industries, Serge Maillet oversees the strategic direction and operations for all industrial cyber security solutions including products and professional services within Siemens’ global Industrial Security Services (ISS) in Australia and New Zealand. His responsibilities include the development and implementation of cyber security solutions within Australia and New Zealand across all the industrial verticals including utilities, manufacturing, automotive, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, energy, oil and gas, mining, and defence. Moreover, as part of a global corporation, Serge has an eye on the wider security landscape. He has over 21 years of professional experience across Canada, the United States and Australia.
Berin Lautenbach
Global Head of Information Security – Toll Group
Berin Lautenbach is the Global Head of Information Security at Toll Group and has an extensive and diverse background in cyber security spanning over 25 years. Berin loves the big cyber security challenges and bringing together a team of great minds to protect customer and corporate data, as well as the systems that run an enterprise. Prior to joining Toll, Berin was the Chief Information Security Officer (AsiaPac) at Telstra. Previous roles have included leading the Information Security Team in GE Capital Australia, followed by setting up and leading the Security Architecture Team for GE Capital globally. Berin has been involved in projects covering a wide range of security technologies including intrusion detection, application security and malware control.
Christopher Turner
Executive Lead (Capability) - cohealth.
Christopher Turner has worked extensively in the community health sector for over 15 years in clinical and executive roles. He is currently the Executive Lead Capability at cohealth. Chris has a strong interest in strategy, governance and leadership and has a Masters in Business Administration and Masters in Politics and Policy. Chris has a passion for health and is a strong advocate for health, social and economic equity. He was cohealth’s primary Executive on the ground from the initial stages of the hard lockdown at the Flemington and North Melbourne high rises; and has led the COVID-19+ Pathway response program. Chris is chair of the Community Health Rapid Response Testing consortium that has been formed to carry out Rapid Response Testing and he is now providing overall Executive oversight of the COVID-19 response.
